Purge

Purge is a short film I made for myself, not for a client, when generative AI video was just emerging. It follows a woman driving through a city on a rainy night in her red classic car, towards a reckoning and a cleansing. I came up with the idea, generated every scene with AI, edited the film and designed its sound from scratch. Music: Portishead – Roads.

The idea

I wanted to see whether AI video could carry a story without dialogue, through image, sound and music alone. I chose a neo-noir palette of neon teal and red and made the red classic car the film’s visual thread. The title carries the ending too: a cleansing in which the rain washes everything away.

Character and scenes

I generated the woman, her car and the city with Gemini so they stay the same in every scene, reworked some frames by hand in Photoshop (the trunk angle, for example), then animated them with an AI video generator. From roughly a hundred images and clips I chose the shots that made it into the film.

Sound and edit

I built the sound in layers: rain and thunder, the inside of the car, a cigarette, a crowded bar, a gunshot and the panic that follows, all set under Portishead’s “Roads” and cut in Premiere. The film closes on a cleansing, the rain washing the blood from the woman’s face.
